Meet the Visionary
Phyllicia Carr is a self-taught painter, photographer and graphic designer from Indianapolis, IN. Carr’s paintings are inspired from vivid dreams, dialogue, research, and deep introspective revelation. Her work encompasses realism and some abstract elements while highlight her subjects with nature. Using her intuition as a guide, she explores identity, vulnerability, and healing for marginalized communities.
She received her B.A. in Communication from North Carolina A&T State University. Her work was featured in exhibitions across the United States; including Indianapolis, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. Organizations that exhibited Carr’s artwork include: Indianapolis Central Public Library, WACO Theater Center's Wearable Art Gala (founded by Richard Lawson & Tina Knowles Lawson), JP Morgan Chase, Be Nimble Foundation, Young & Laramore, Maywright Property Group, Indiana Black Expo, White River Alliance, Trilogy Health and more.
You can find Carr’s public art murals in Muncie, IN at IU Ball Memorial Hospital and Innovative Edit in Indianapolis, IN. Carr has participated in artist panels for Young & Laramore, Butter Art Fair, and Minerva Financial Arts in partnership of Indiana Arts Commission. With a passion for young creatives, she also spoke with students at Tindley Genesis Academy and Indianapolis Urban League.
